Rappahannock residents Alma Viator and Ben Jones will reprise their popular presentation of “Love Letters” by acclaimed playwright A. R. Gurney at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia, on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m.
“Love Letters” traces the 50-year love affair of artist Melissa Gardner and lawyer Andrew Makepeace Ladd III from the second grade through middle age. A hit on and off Broadway, it was written to be read aloud in a simple setting, using the pair’s lifelong correspondence to reveal a poignant, bittersweet and star-crossed relationship.
“It is a very moving story, but also at times very funny,” says Viator. “It is a perfect piece for the Theatre at Washington, and a perfect play for Valentine’s Day. We last did it here in 2001, and folks are still asking us about doing it again.”
Tickets for “Love Letters” are $20 for adults, $5 for those 17 and younger. Seating is reserved. To make reservations or to obtain a copy of the Theatre’s new spring schedule: 540-675-1253 or TheatreVA@aol.com.
