Betsy Apple, center, widow of food writer and “Far Flung and Well Fed” author R.W. “Johnny” Apple Jr., chats with CBS News correspondent Bill Plante and PBS’ Terence Smith before the three, as well as publisher and Washington mayor-elect John Fox Sullivan, gave brief readings from Apple’s food memoir – all as part of the book signing and readings sponsored by Washington’s R.H. Ballard Rug and Home at the shop on Saturday, May 1, to benefit the Rappahannock Food Pantry. The reading was followed by a Food Pantry fundraiser wine auction and dinner at the Meadows, John and Beverly Sullivan’s home nearby.
