Chester Gap: Baptist church awards honors

The Chester Gap Baptist church presented two new awards this past Sunday at the morning service.
At the start of the school year Pastor David Johnson and Youth Group leader Teresa North told the boys and girls that they would be watching them to see who exemplified the behaviors Christ has asked of us in the Scriptures. They looked for selflessness, kindness, charity and compassion, as well as a host of other behaviors throughout the year.
The award, called the Christ Likeness Award, was received by Kayla Campbell for the girls and by Will Ubben for the boys. Pastor Johnson spoke long and admirably about both and charged them to continue along the path that each has started upon. Also of note is the fact that the Youth Group meeting has averaged about 25 children each Wednesday night and continues to grow.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School starts this Sunday evening (June 20) and runs through Friday (June 25). The events will start each night at 6 and continue until 8:30. The theme this year is Egypt and what it was like for Joseph as well as the Hebrews who were slaves there. It promises to be a great time once again this year and all children are encouraged and invited to attend. For more information call 540-636-4336 and speak with church secretary Stacy North.

Apple butter orders, donations

The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will be making more of their “oh it’s so good your tongue’ll beat your brains out to get to it” apple butter this fall. Those wishing to place orders ahead of time (it goes fast) to ensure that they will receive some should contact department treasurer Maybelle Gilkey at 540-635-5472.

She will be totaling the amounts so that they can ensure that enough is made for everyone. Also, the department is in need of donations of first and foremost sugar and lots and lots of it but also spices such as cloves, cinnamon, and such, as well as jars, rings and lids. Those who can donate these items should contact either Maybelle or department secretary Stephanie Crawford at 540-635-5091. As always the department appreciates all of the community’s support and looks forward to seeing you all at some upcoming fundraising events planned for this year.
