Blue Ridge Chorale in search of singers

The Blue Ridge Chorale, Culpeper, is recruiting singers from Rappahannock County for the Blue Ridge Chorale’s fall season.
Singers will rehearse on Monday evenings at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Culpeper. Interested singers can call 540-948-4573 for more information.

The Chorale is also taking registration for its music workshop for youth ages 7 to 14. The workshop meets in Culpeper on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m., to noon starting today, July 1, to July 29 with an evening concert on July 29 at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is required and a family rate is available. The Chorale embraces a broad musical repertoire. This not-for-profit community chorale that has been serving central Virginia since 1967. Originally limited to Culpeper, its membership has grown to include singers from Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Madison, Orange, Rappahannock and Spotsylvania counties.

The Chorale’s members come not only from many communities and backgrounds, but with many different levels of musical experience. They include members who have sung professionally and some who previously had mostly sung in the shower. The group’s main criteria for singers is that they love to sing. Directors and accompanists are carefully chosen to bring bring out the best in each voice.

The Chorale repertoire is drawn from a wide range of styles: the works of the great and lesser known classic and modern composers, popular and show tunes, carols and folk tunes, sea shanties and operettas, which blend into concerts that are considered challenging, inspiring and fun.

Chorale members meet and rehearse in Culpeper on Monday evenings between 6:30 and 8:30 from the end of August through April. Its “home base” is St. Luke’s Lutheran, Culpeper, but the Chorale isn’t affiliated with any church or religion.

Concerts are held in the winter and spring. A Christmas concert was held last winter at The Theatre in Washington.
