On Wednesday, Sept. 22 the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 7:30 p.m., at the courthouse on Gay Street. Highlights on the agenda include: Miller bed and breakfast and Poe brothers tourist home.

The Washington Fire Dept. Auxiliary has extended its thrift shop’s hours. They are now from 10 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and from 9 to 3 p.m., on Saturdays. Donations of usable clothing, shoes. or linens in good condition may be left in the drop-off shed at any time. Children’s clothing is especially needed. Hearthstone School’s Parent/Child Group offers child care on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (choice of one or two days) from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 18 months to 6 years. Activities include storytelling, watercolor painting, beeswax sculpture, sewing, crafts, rhythmic movement, outdoor play, bread making, snack time and more. The fee is $5 per hour per child. Blue Ridge Chorale enrolling youth and adult members for the winter concert season through Sept. 20. Youth and adult singers from Rappahannock County and the surrounding areas are welcome. The adult chorale is adding soprano, tenor and bass voices. The BRC is a relaxed, dynamic community group with a wide musical repertory. Its Christmas concert program will feature John Rutter’s “Magnificat.” Experience is not required; training provided. The Chorale meets Mondays at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 1200 Old Rixeyville Rd., Culpeper. Adult Chorale rehearsals start at 6:30 p.m.; youth choir (ages 7 to 14) rehearsals are 5:45 p.m. to 6:15. Chester Gap Volunteer Fire and Rescue is looking for men and women to join the fire department. No experience is needed, training provided. Company 9 is in need of people who want to serve their community by helping with fundraisers, running calls, assisting the public and more. The administrative office of Piedmont Regional Adult and Continuing Education Programs, which serves Rappahannock County, has moved to the Culpeper Annex Building in Culpeper. Adult education offers GED classes in the evening. Contact Piedmont Regional Adult Education at 540-829-9914 to register for adult education classes. The regional GED testing center has moved to the Culpeper Annex Building as well. This year adult education managed to secure a grant for GED first time test takers. You do not have to be in an adult education program to qualify for a free GED test but you do have to be over the age of 18 years. You do not have to take the entire test at one time. The Northern Piedmont Community Foundation (NPCF) is accepting grant applications for its 2010 discretionary grant making period. NPCF serves the counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison and Rappahannock and strives to enhance and preserve the quality the life in the area and to strengthen the region’s nonprofit organizations.
