Letter: Thanks for a successful Belle Meade fundraiser

We want to thank the many people who contributed to the successful Farm Tour and fundraiser at Belle Meade School. Cheryl Mirabella, assisted by Lorinda Bosch, and Lynn Stillwell and Allison Haught organized, planned and worked for months ahead and all during the week and day of our event.

Raffle tickets for one of three very attractive vacation packages and an impressive list of silent auction items drew hopeful contestants. The winner announced in the Saturday drawing was Georgia Landman of Sperryville, who selected the lovely beach home for a week at the shore in Avon, N.C.

There were homemade lunches and farm stand sales of fresh produce and meat. The Belle Meade event also included music by Mandorla, beekeeping demonstrations by Robert Wellemeyer’s, hayride tours of the farm, and a “chef cook-off” that proved to be a big hit.

Thanks go to the three participating cooks: chef-owner Frank Maragos of Foti’s restaurant (Culpeper), chef Brian Lichorowic of Middleburg, and parent Pat Hendren. Each were assisted by a Belle Meade student sous chef. Food from Belle Meade’s farm was turned into delicious fare. Judging the finished plate offerings were “cuisine specialists” and F.T. Valley neighbors Evelyn Willis, Jack Bagley and Rosita McKee. Together they jokingly called the contest a three-way tie, offering prizes to all involved as the crowd cheered.
