Letter: ‘A caring community’

Advocates for a Mother and Child Reunion (AMCR) would like to thank all who gave so generously to make the Oct. 10 benefit such a great success. It is deeply gratifying to experience a caring community in action — and to be a part of such a positive and inclusive event. So, again, to the mothers and grandmothers who put the event together, to the grandfathers and fathers and friends who honor motherhood through their support, and to the musicians who shared their songs: our heartfelt thanks.

AMCR is a grass-roots charitable organization that has been formed to help a young woman in our community restore her parental rights. With respect to the primacy of the mother-child bond, we strive to promote compassionate co-parenting and fairness in custody practices, encouraging the participation of fathers, grandparents and community for the sake of a well-adjusted child — and a better world. To this end we are raising funds to help her maintain contact with her child and to provide her with adequate legal counsel.
