Rappahannock County voters go to the polls next Tuesday to cast ballots in two races and vote on three proposed amendments to Virginia’s constitution.
All polling places in the county will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
There are contested races for Rappahannock Circuit Court Clerk and Congress representing the 7th District.
Incumbent Margaret R. “Peggy” Ralph, Paul Hagstrom and Lavonne Adkins are the candidates for the clerk position. You’ll all the relevant Letters to the Editor we’ve received regarding this race here.
There is also a three-way race for the congressional seat held by Eric Cantor (R-7th). Story here.
If voters approve, the amendments to the constitution would:
• Allow localities to grant full or partial real estate tax exemptions to low-income senior citizens and people with disabilities.
• Exempt disabled veterans or their surviving spouses from the real estate tax if the disability or death was service related.
• Increase the size of the state’s revenue-stabilization fund from 10 to 15 percent drawn from income and retail sales taxes.
