The Rush River lives up to its name Wednesday morning after heavy rains Tuesday night and early Wednesday washed out the low-water crossing leading to the home of Laura Smoot on Harris Hollow Road in Washington. Smoot’s son, Randy, had to walk his daughter, Christy, through a field to cross the river and catch the school bus. The area received 2.37 inches of rain Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to rappahannockweather.com.
