Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Sisk watches the radar display — it ought to say 25 or less — on a recent morning in Sperryville, part of Sheriff Connie Smith’s stepped-up patrols directed at speeders in Sperryville, Flint Hill, Washington, Woodville and elsewhere. The effort netted 51 citations in four days last week, Smith says. Even after residents and county officials had persuaded VDOT to lower the limit to 25 throughout most of close-in Sperryville, several pets were lost to speeding drivers this winter and community meetings were called. Barbara Adolfi talks about the results so far in her Sperryville column this week.
