On Tuesday, Nov. 8, we have the opportunity to vote for two candidates for the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District board. There are three candidates; two are incumbents and both deserve to be reelected to this very important board. John Gehno and Monira Rifaat are farmers and have the experience and sense of place to represent our county’s interests in this five county board (Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, Orange, Greene).
John Gehno is completing his first term on the board, has managed the largest farm in Rappahannock, Eldon Farm, since 2005, grew up in a farm family and has a masters in agriculture from Cornell and will receive his MBA from Duke this December. He understands the pressures on farmers and the importance of protecting our water and land resources.
Monira Rifaaat has been on the board since 2003 and has held leadership positions on it (including chair) and at the regional level. Monira has a progressive farm and stays very current on the issues related to farming, open space and water and soil.
We are fortunate to have such strong representatives and I hope you will join me in voting for both of them.
