Meetings and Notices for Jan. 12

Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation services will not operate on Friday, Jan. 13, in observance of Lee-Jackson Day, and Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

All Rappahannock County government  offices will be closed on Friday, Jan. 13 in observance of Lee-Jackson Day and on Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Union First Market  and BB&T Bank will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Rappahannock public schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

On Thursday, Jan. 12, the Washington Architectural Review Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall on Gay Street. Highlights from the agenda include: Patricia W. Weinberg, installation of new 26-gauge double-seamed metal roof on 262 Main St.; The Inn at Little Washington, replacement of roof on residence at 17 Harris Hollow Road.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, the Rappahannock County Planning Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse on Gay Street. Highlights from the agenda include: Election of officers, 2012 (conducted by zoning administrator); Playhouse Corporation permit amendment; Fort Bed and Breakfast; Comprehensive Plan hearing schedule; building permit report.

The Town of Washington’s Architectural Review Board’s regularly scheduled meeting of Thursday, Feb. 9, has been changed to Thursday, Feb. 16.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Culpeper Chapter #73 invites the students of Rappahannock County to participate in its annual essay contest. Public, private and home-schooled students are encouraged to enter. Prizes, awarded in six grade categories spanning first through 12th grade, are $50 (first-place) $35 and $25. If you have an interest in history, essay rules and checklist can be found at Rappahannock County Public Schools, Wakefield Country Day School, Hearthstone School and the Rappahannock County Public Library.
