Letter: Your care, generosity changed everything

During my wife’s struggle with cancer, which extended through the holiday season, my family was bestowed with an explosive outpouring of generosity and compassion. Such was this outpouring that my cynical view of people’s care for their fellow person has been forever altered.

On behalf of a humbled and grateful Bane family, I am writing in an attempt to thank as many of the wonderful people in this community who have encouraged, supported, assisted, and given of themselves in our time of trouble, as possible. Our deepest gratitude to the Rappahannock County Elementary School friends and staff, the Nicodemus, Reidinger and Waddell families for caring for us so much through all of Angela’s ordeal and the holidays. Also to Sandra Anderson, Jenks Hobson and his family, and all of the amazing congregation of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Many thanks also to Harold Beebout, Mary Frances LeMat and everyone at Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad, who kept us in their thoughts and prayers. Much gratitude to Chef Victor and the folks at Griffin Tavern for a Christmas dinner that rivaled any meal we have ever heard of.

We must also thank some anonymous benefactors who bestowed upon us the gifts of security and peace of mind during the holiday season. I must hope that in the future, we are able to “pay forward” the compassion, generosity and selflessness that we have received in the last couple of months.
