Letter: RappRides ready to roll

Do you know a senior who would like to go shopping but can’t, for lack of transportation? Tell him or her to call RappRides at 540-987-3638.

Transportation for home-bound seniors to area shopping centers was identified as a high-priority need by local nonprofit organizations at a meeting convened by the Northern Virginia Community Foundation last October. RappRides is the response.

Volunteers will provide door-to-door shopping for seniors to four neighboring shopping centers, starting with a trip to Warrenton on Friday, March 2. Trips to Culpeper, Luray and Front Royal follow on successive Fridays. The cycle repeats each month. For a pickup, shoppers should leave their name, address, and phone number with Darcy Canton, the Rappahannock Senior Center coordinator, at 540-987-3638. She will match them with a driver in their neighborhood.

Shoppers must be 60 or older. Donations are accepted but not required. Most important, trips must be scheduled at least eight days in advance to allow time to assign shoppers to drivers. The more advance notice the better, both to help Darcy fill up the cars and for seniors to get a seat, as there may be several passengers in each vehicle.

Call Darcy now!
