After work . . . a playground!

MORE THAN 40 volunteers, including a mulch-dust-covered contingent from the Sheriff’s Office below, showed up last Thursday and Friday to assemble equipment and spread ground cover for the playground at Rappahannock County Elementary School, the majority of which was paid for by community donations and was put into use by preschooler Matthias Smith and a buddy, above, on Tuesday.

“There are too many names to list them all tonight,” said Stonewall-Hawthorne district representative Ron Brown (who himself donated heavy equipment and manpower) at Tuesday night’s school board meeting. “But it was quite impressive, and really good to step back and see how much this community cares.”
