At 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors meets at the Rappahannock County courthouse with an agenda that includes: Wes Clark-Robinson Farmer, Cox, Assoc. FY 2011 audited financial statements; VDOT update on bridge projects; tourism report; high school HVAC and window replacement project award; community action program update; polling place, Stonewall-Hawthorne District; adoption of county administrator’s contract; Amy Burnett, 4-H Community Club check presentation; meals and lodging revenue collection and reporting; Route 729/Richmond Road safety improvements; Constitution Day declaration; emergency open burning restriction Feb. 24-26; asset forfeiture for scanner purchase; first Comprehensive Plan forum in Chester Gap March 21. There is no 7 p.m. session.
A School Board Budget Public Hearing is 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Rappahannock County High School auditorium for public comments on the proposed 2012-2013 school budget. The School Board will hold its regularly scheduled meeting immediately following the public hearing.
The deadline for the eighth annual Artists of Rappahannock Studio & Gallery Tour, sponsored Nov. 3-4 by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC), is March 31 for all new artists and returning open studio hosts and galleries to contact Robert Ballard at 540-675-1411 (or Robert@rhballard.com) or Nancy Raines at 540-937-5693 (or firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in participating. Artists wishing to host an open studio will be scheduled for visits April 2-13.
The United Daughters of the Confederacy Culpeper Chapter #73 invites the students of Rappahannock County to participate in its annual essay contest. Public, private and home-schooled students are encouraged to enter. Prizes, awarded in six grade categories spanning first through 12th grade, are $50 (first-place) $35 and $25. If you have an interest in history, essay rules and checklist can be found at Rappahannock County Public Schools, Wakefield Country Day School, Hearthstone School and the Rappahannock County Public Library.
