VDOT Traffic Alert: May 25-June 1

The following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, VDOT will remove lane closures and temporary work zones for interstate and roadway projects. Lane closures will be lifted from noon Friday, May 25, until noon Tuesday, May 29. Permanent construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place.

VDOT continues its mowing along primary roads in the Culpeper District, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Motorists are asked to watch for slow-moving mowing operations and to slow their speed, stay alert and move into the opposite lane where possible when approaching the work zone. 

Albemarle County

Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Bridge restoration. Road closed at Shadwell bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad from May 1 to July 9. Motorists should be alert for posted detour onto Interstate 64 and expect delays.

Route 691 (Jarmans Gap Road) – Roadway improvements and construction of bike lanes and sidewalk. Estimated project completion September 2012, with intermittent lane closures throughout the project. Motorists should be alert as they approach the work zone.

City of Charlottesville

Jefferson Park Avenue Extended – Bridge replacement. Road closed at JPA bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad. Estimated completion September 2012. Motorists should be alert for signs and traffic controls as they approach the work zone.

Culpeper County

Route 684 (Bel Pre Road) – Bridge work over Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway). Alternating lane closures daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect delays and stay alert for changes in the traffic pattern.

Fauquier County

Route 15/29 (Opal Interchange) – Clearing, excavation, installation of stone and median widening. Intermittent lane closures may occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Route 844 (Fayettesville Road) closed permanently to through traffic in conjunction with this project. Motorists should expect delays and stay alert as they approach the work zone.

Fluvanna County

Route 1015 (Turkey Sag Trail) – Construction of bike lanes and pedestrian facilities. Lane closures will occur April 10-September 28. Motorists are asked to drive with caution through the work zone and stay alert for changes to the traffic pattern.

Rappahannock County

Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) – Bridge restoration. Road closed at bridge over Thornton River, April 30-September 27. Motorists should be alert for posted detour onto Route 1001 (Main Street). Large trucks should follow posted “Truck Detour” signs.

Route 729 (Richmond Road) – Replacement of bridge over Battle Run. Road closed at bridge, April 9-October 2. Motorists should use the posted detour route.
