Independence Day 2012 was celebrated in a spectacular fashion again this year at Thornton Hill Race Course on July 4th. Friends of the community attended the sixth annual Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department event from all corners of Rappahannock County and abroad to celebrate our country’s independence. A large American flag furnished by B&B Signal Company flew high over the event, reminding everyone of the freedoms we enjoy each and every day. The celebration included live music by Narrow Path Bluegrass, Dontez Inferno and the Gold Top County Ramblers. Even with the hot weather, a good time was had by all and the day ended with a spectacular fireworks show and grand finale. It may have been the best yet!
The success of the event would not have been possible without the generous contributions from our underwriters, Jamie, Lilla and Bill Fletcher, Hampton Foundation, B&B Signal Company, Greg Williams Tree & Landscaping Service, Union First Market Bank, Cheri and Martin Woodard Realtors, Traffic Control & Marking Systems and the Greve Foundation. The SVFD membership asks that you personally thank each of the underwriters when you see them for their significant contributions.
In addition to the underwriters, the fire department would like to thank all of the local corporate sponsors who contributed to the event. They ranged from local businesses and nonprofit organizations to families who celebrated July 4th on the infield sponsorship area. Special thanks go out to all of Rappahannock’s fire and rescue companies. Their participation once again contributed to the success of the event, but more important, they are recognized for the invaluable service they provide to Rappahannock County every day. We also want to recognize the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for their contributions to the event, and to the vendors for their services.
Lastly, please thank all of the members of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department when you see them for their countless hours of hard work. The committee may coordinate the event, but make no mistake – the members make it happen and deserve all of the credit because of their commitment and desire to serve.
Thanks to everyone who made it to this year’s celebration and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
