Sperryville residents and passersbys Fawn Evenson, Sylvie Rowand, Monica Worth, contractor employee Matt Cody and Barbara Adolfi celebrate the opening of the new U.S. 522 bridge over the Thornton River as Jamie Dwyer, the one employee of Charlottesville-based contractor FCE Inc. who lives in Rappahannock County, got to drive the first vehicle across the new bridge – which had been closed since May. At the bottom, the FCE crew who did most of the work, are, from left: team leader Tommy Quarles, Cody, Ricky Wiseman and Dwyer. While other specialists came and went, these four were on the job day in and day out, in 80- to 90-degree weather, on many Saturdays, and even once pulled a 17-hour day when the roadbed of the bridge was laid down at 2 a.m.
