Letter: American discourse vs. petty theft

One of the touchstones of our democracy is the right to publicly support a candidate for office. As a citizen and landowner in Rappahannock County I exercised this right by displaying signs supporting the President on my property. However, these signs were removed from my posted property by some who are apparently in disagreement with my political beliefs.

These actions are not only illegal, but also fly in the face of the values of a civil society. It is unfortunate that some individuals in our community would prefer theft and vandalism over healthy debate and rational discourse. A true American would celebrate our diversity and differences in opinion.
