Headwaters/Rappahannock County Public Schools’ after-school program has two Lego clubs in its current six-week session (which has 49 students), including the Lego Simple Machines Club – an integration of history, physics, mathematics and technology that has mom Deverell Pederson and daughter Maeve looking for the right piece for Maeve’s device that uses gears and pulleys, while Dorian Thomas, another member of the Simple Machines Club, holds up his completed Lego catapult.

Meanwhile Nate Smith, Ethan Sabol and Dominic Del Grosso use science, technology, engineering and math to program and design their project in the First Lego League Robotics Club (ages 9 to 14) at Rappahannock County Elementary School. The after-school program is supported by the community’s donations and RCPS.
