The Washington Town Council holds its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Monday (Jan. 14) at town hall. Agenda items include continued consideration of the Washington School Gym Adaptive Re-Use by People Inc.; consideration of a sewer connection policy for new users; updates on fire hydrant painting and the Virginia Naturalists Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund Grant application.

The Farm Tour Steering Committee holds its first meeting of the year at 7 p.m. this Monday (Jan. 14) at Kenner Love’s office on the second floor of the Peter Kramer building, 311 Gay St. All farms and area businesses wishing to participate in this year’s tour are invited to attend. The Washington Architectural Review Board (ARB) meets at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday, Jan. 10) in the town hall on Gay Street. Agenda includes: George Eatman, request to relocate previously approved garden shed at 598 Gay St.; John and Diane MacPherson, modifications to 189 Main St.

The Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority meets at 5:30 tonight (Thursday, Jan. 10) at the courthouse in Washington.

The January meeting of the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals is canceled.

The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL) holds its annual meeting at the Rappahannock County Library at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28, in the Jamieson Room. The meeting includes a summary of 2012 activity and achievements, as well as goals for RAWL in 2013. RAWL members have the opportunity to vote on the proposed slate of directors for 2013. The Rappahannock County Visitors Center is only open on holiday weekends from January to March. The center is open during Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend (Jan. 18-21), President’s Day weekend (Feb. 15-18) and St. Patrick’s Day weekend (March 15-18). It will also be open this weekend (Friday, Dec. 28-Sunday, Dec. 30). The center reopens with its regular weekend schedule April 5.

Singers are invited to join the Blue Ridge Chorale through Jan. 21. Rehearsals for the spring concert season are 6:30 p.m. Monday evenings at Open Door Baptist Church (754 Germanna Hwy., Culpeper). The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association (NPBA) announces its spring 2013 seven-week course for all those interested in honeybees. Classes begin Feb. 5 and are held Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class “Meet-and-Greet” event for students is held Feb. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Verdun. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course fee of $100 per person or family. Registration is open; class size is limited and fills quickly each year.
