Meetings and Notices for Jan. 17

The Washington town council continued its Jan. 14 meeting to 7 p.m. next Wednesday (Jan. 23), for further consideration of and a possible vote on the Washington School/People Inc. permit.

All Rappahannock County government offices are closed Friday (Jan. 18) in observance of Lee-Jackson Day and Monday (Jan. 21) in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. They reopen Tuesday, Jan. 22. Union First Market Bank and BB&T in Flint Hill are closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reopen Tuesday.

The Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority meets at 5:30 tonight (Jan. 17) at the courthouse in Washington.

Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation will not operate tomorrow (Jan. 18) or Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of Lee-Jackson Day and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The January meeting of the Rappahannock County Board of Zoning Appeals is canceled.

The Rappahannock County Visitors Center is only open on holiday weekends from January to March. The center is open during Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend (Jan. 18-21), President’s Day weekend (Feb. 15-18) and St. Patrick’s Day weekend (March 15-18). It will also be open this weekend (Friday, Dec. 28-Sunday, Dec. 30). The center reopens with its regular weekend schedule April 5.

Singers are invited to join the Blue Ridge Chorale through Jan. 21. Rehearsals for the spring concert season are 6:30 p.m. Monday evenings at Open Door Baptist Church (754 Germanna Hwy., Culpeper). The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL) holds its annual meeting at the Rappahannock County Library at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28, in the Jamieson Room. The meeting includes a summary of 2012 activity and achievements, as well as goals for RAWL in 2013. RAWL members have the opportunity to vote on the proposed slate of directors for 2013. The Northern Piedmont Beekeepers Association (NPBA) announces its spring 2013 seven-week course for all those interested in honeybees. Classes begin Feb. 5 and are held Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at Verdun Adventure Bound in Rixeyville. The class “Meet-and-Greet” event for students is held Feb. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Verdun. Texts, handouts and a one-year membership in NPBA are included in the course fee of $100 per person or family. Registration is open; class size is limited and fills quickly each year.
