Wakefield Country Day School ninth-grade biology students (from left) Gabe Cancio-Bello, Brier Clough, Nikolas Patton and Abe Nolan recently traveled to several local farms to place nine wood duck nest boxes. This is the culmination of a science class unit in which the group studied wood duck characteristics, habitat requirements and population dynamics. The students marked the lumber, constructed the boxes and placed them in suitable nesting habitats. Not just educational, this project should also help add to the local wood duck population.
