Sperryville EMTs honored with national Star of Life awards

The American Ambulance Association (AAA) recently presented Sperryville residents Dave Hawn and Jennifer Kindall, pre-hospital providers at LifeCare Medical Transports Inc., with the 2013 Star of Life awards – considered to be the highest national honor that emergency medical services professionals can receive.

At this year’s Star of Life event last month in Washington, D.C., During that time, Hawn and Kindall joined their fellow national award recipients for three days of education and recognition on Capitol Hill. The award winners had the opportunity to meet with members of Congress and key congressional aides to discuss legislative issues critical to all emergency medical services professionals. Four of the 67 nationally recognized award recipients are, like the two Sperryville residents, employed by LifeCare Medical Transports Inc. in Stafford County.

AAA represents organizations serving more than 75 percent of Americans with emergency and nonemergency care and medical transportation needs. Each year, AAA holds the Star of Life event to celebrate the achievements of their members. Jimmy Johnson, president of the AAA, said: “As a community, we understand that we are stronger when we take a moment to remember who we are and what we have done. That is why our organization strives to spotlight the best of the best in the emergency medical services field during the Star of Life event.”

Dave Hawn has been an active EMS provider for 23 years, and has been employed with LifeCare Medical Transports for more than six years. He has a passion for efficient and compassionate patient care. In his role as team leader, he has ensured that his patients are transported safely and in a timely manner. Hawn and his crew have also participated in community events and parades, and have received multiple awards for their participation in community outreach.

“Dave’s exemplary commitment to outstanding quality patient care and customer service as an EMT-E with LifeCare Medical Transports earned him this distinctive honor,” said Kevin Dillard, president of LifeCare Medical Transports.

EMT-B Jennifer Kindall has been a dedicated employee of LifeCare Medical Transports for more than seven years and is known for her positive attitude and cheerful demeanor. She is respected among her peers for her passionate delivery of quality patient care and customer service. Kindall and her crew have frequently participated in local parades and community events, and have received multiple awards over the years for “Best Appearing Ambulance” thanks to her attention to detail and pride in her work.

“Jennifer was honored as a Star of Life award recipient for her excellent work ethic and commitment to excellence,” said Dillard. “LifeCare is extremely proud to have her as part of the team providing outstanding customer service to our communities.”

LifeCare Medical Transports was founded in 1994 by Kevin Dillard and Dan Wildman in the Fredericksburg area. In 1999, Ernst and Young recognized Dillard and Wildman as Virginia’s “Entrepreneurs of the Year.” Headquartered in Stafford County, Va., LifeCare has since grown to one of Virginia’s largest providers of health care transportation services with locations throughout the state, and was the first commercial agency to win the Governor’s Award for Outstanding EMS Agency in 2007.
