More than 200 people attended the opening of the Virginia Chutney Company’s new cannery (right) at the old Aileen plant in Flint Hill — the first commercial manufacturing operation to open there since Aileen closed 15 years ago. The afternoon featured opera singers from the Castleton Festival, tours, tea and chutney-themed snacks from Little Washington Winery and demonstrations of owner Nevill Turner’s new pallet wrapper (in which his son, Oliver, volunteered to be readied for shipping). On the left, Chris Byrd reads the famous “witches’ brew” passage from MacBeth (in a good-natured ribbing of the chutney-making process) while (from left) Oliver, Nevill and Clare Turner and County Administrator John McCarthy listen.
