After their league team, the Yankees (coached by Carl Payne), went undefeated for the season, Rappahannock softball players Carrington Wayland (center, with her hands on the banner) and Olivia Atkins (front row, far right) were chosen by coaches to play on the 9/10-year-old All Star Team, shown here, with teammates (and coaches) primarily from Culpeper. The all-star team defeated East Orange, Madison, Gordonsville and the JAGS and won the District 14 title — and they travel to Lebanon, Va., today (Thursday, June 18) to compete in the state softball tournament. Olivia is the daughter of Jeff and Jill Atkins of Sperryville; Carrington is the daughter of Tony and Deanna Wayland of Sperryville.
