Local hospice nurse Martha Hughes was crossing the Jordan River on North Poes Road last week when she slowed to read signs on both sides of the superstructure, which weren’t there last time she passed. There are no toll bridges in Rappahannock County — but apparently, or at least occasionally, there are troll bridges. Not wanting to disturb any mythical Norse creatures who might’ve wandered into the Old Dominion, Hughes said she put a quarter in the tin on the ground below (and noticed that others had, too).
