Crime and Courts for Aug. 1

DUI arrests

On July 18, Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office Deputy B. Smoot encountered a vehicle operated by Phillip Keith Butler sitting at the intersection of Lee Highway and Viewtown Road. After further investigation, the 52-year-old Butler, of Washington, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence — his third offense within 10 years (and consequently a felony). Butler is scheduled to appear in district court Aug. 6.

On July 20, Sgt. J. Dodson stopped a vehicle on Lee Highway, arresting the driver Gregory Brent Hunsaker, 52, of Sperryville. Hunsaker was charged with three misdemeanors — DUI (second offense within five years), refusal to submit to a blood or breath test and driving after having his license revoked for an alcohol-related offense. Hunsaker’s district court hearing is also Aug. 6.
