Congratulations to two of Hearthstone’s 2013 graduates — Antonia “Tori” Rupert and Julian Bauchspies. Rupert was accepted at James Madison University and Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C., and awarded a 97-percent scholarship. Bauchspies was accepted at Geijerskolan in Sweden, where he plans to study Swedish language and culture. He was also accepted at Sodra Vatterbygdens Folkhogskola in Sweden.
Hearthstone also congratulates three alumni. In May, Vanessa Dunn received her Masters degree in early childhood education from James Madison University, and has begun work in the Culpeper County public school system. Kaiya Abernathy graduated in May from the University of Virginia with a degree in anthropology and Victor Rogers was accepted to the University of Hawaii, where he begins studying later this month.
Louise Johns, a 2010 graduate of Wakefield Country Day School in Flint Hill, recently received a $700 John Forssen Memorial Award scholarship from the University of Montana School of Journalism. Johns, a junior at UM majoring in photojournalism, is the daughter of Elizabeth and Chris Johns of Sperryville.
Put on your best poker face and be ready to go “all in” at the Wakefield Country Day School Texas Hold’Em Charity Poker Tournament this Saturday (Aug. 10). There is still room at the tables and the play will be fun, yet competitive. All proceeds from this annual event support the school’s athletic department. Prizes will be awarded for first through fourth place, along with several other door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, a trophy for the first player knocked out of the tournament and a prize for the last woman remaining at the tables.
The first-place player receives a trophy and a $325 gift card, second place takes home a $125 gift card and third place enjoys a $100 gift certificate to the Flint Hill Public House. The fourth-place player receives a one night stay at the Mountain View Suite at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Strasburg, Va. For registration and more information, contact WCDS athletic director Mike Costello at 540-635-8555 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
