Meetings and Notices for Aug. 29

The following are closed Monday (Sept. 2) in observance of Labor Day, reopening Tuesday: Rappahannock County government offices; Rappahannock County Public Schools; Union First Market Bank; Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services transportation; BB&T in Flint Hill; Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles; and the Rappahannock News (which has early deadlines for the Sept. 5 edition; all items for publication should be submitted no later than 3 p.m. tomorrow — Friday, Aug. 30).

The Washington Town Council’s regularly scheduled meeting (originally on Sept. 9) has been moved to Sept. 16, still at 7 p.m. at town hall.

Windmore Foundation for the Arts’ Crossroads Youth Orchestra is holding auditions at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6 and 2 p.m. Sept. 8 for musicians in grades six through 12 with at least two years of experience. Strings players are especially needed. If you are interested in being in the symphony orchestra, schedule an audition time by calling Carla Jewell at 540-517-1115.

The Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services board holds its regular meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 15361 Bradford Road, Culpeper. Contact Kimberley Martin at 540-825-3100, ext. 3146.

The Rappahannock County Water & Sewer Authority holds its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 (instead of Sept. 5, due to a conflict with the circuit court) at the courthouse. On the agenda: a resolution which will set its future regular monthly meeting dates, as well as an alternate date, or dates.

Piedmont Softball Association is accepting registrations for girls interested in its fast-pitch programs this fall. All girls born between 1994 and 2007 are welcome, as well as any skill level from beginner through very experienced. Registration fee for players who didn’t play this past spring is $40 for 12 and younger and $45 for ages 13-18 ($5 discount for each additional player from the same household).
