The Rappahannock County Water & Sewer Authority holds its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 12) at the courthouse. On the agenda: a resolution which will set its future regular monthly meeting dates, as well as an alternate date, or dates.
The Architectural Review Board (ARB) meets at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 12) at the Washington Town Hall. The agenda includes Jerry and Cindy Hodges; new house construction on property at the east end of Main Street.
The Washington Town Council’s regular meeting is 7 p.m. Monday (Sept. 16) at town hall. Agenda includes a public hearing on a special-use permit on the Foster Harris House, an update on town events through December and consideration of changing the Oct. 14 council meeting date as it falls on Columbus Day.
Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation will not operate tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 13), due to an in-service training.
There being no business to come before the boards, the September meetings of the Rappahannock County Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals are hereby cancelled.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy’s annual essay contest is open to all students of Rappahannock County, including home-schoolers. There are a categories for high school, middle and elementary age students, with cash prizes awarded for each. A copy of the essay topics and rules can be obtained at Rappahannock County Public Schools, Wakefield Country Day School, Hearthstone School and the Rappahannock County Public Library. Piedmont Softball Association is accepting registrations for girls interested in its fast-pitch programs this fall. All girls born between 1994 and 2007 are welcome, as well as any skill level from beginner through very experienced. Registration fee for players who didn’t play this past spring is $40 for 12 and younger and $45 for ages 13-18 ($5 discount for each additional player from the same household).
