Photo: Rain damage

Yesterday’s brief rain showers were harmless for most Rappahannockers, but not for the driver of this Sysco truck passing through Sperryville at 4 p.m. Just west of Central Coffee Roasters, the driver apparently began to hydroplane and lost control of the 18-wheeler, which began to jackknife, the cab ultimately coming to rest against a tree on the eastbound side of U.S. 211. Despite an apparent lack of tread on at least two of the truck’s tires, the driver, 28-year-old Michael P. Long of Harrisonburg, walked away with only minor injuries. Long was wearing his seat belt, according to Virginia State Police, whose Trooper P. Domingoes investigated and charged Long with reckless driving.
