• D.C. developer and longtime local weekender Jim Abdo, whose White Moose Inn (the former Heritage House B&B) is looking as if it might be open by Christmas in Little Washington, also recently bought the long-empty Pullen house (pictured here) two doors down for about $428,000 some weeks back. The town council will hear his request Monday to allow the White Moose manager to have an apartment upstairs (instead of at the inn), while plans for the downstairs — pub? wine bar? rumor-and-speculation outlet? — are not yet known.

• Dick McNear’s renovated Old Hollow Store will reopen Nov. 1, we hear, under new management. And David Smoot, who ran the nursery and produce operation outside, says he closed it down after selling out all his seasonal goods so he could better enjoy the season that’s coming — that being hunting season — and will reopen in spring.

Planning notes . . .

AT&T’s cell-tower permits have expired, and at next Wednesday’s Rappahannock County Planning Commission meeting (7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the courthouse), the agenda includes a proposed expansion of Harmony Manor B&B and a zoning amendment to allow Mount Vernon Farm to apply for a special-exception permit for a nine-hole golf course. More details here.
