Sherri Smith, director of the Artisan Center of Virginia, highlights similar projects elsewhere in Virginia for attendees of Tuesday night’s (Oct. 22) trail-naming forum, which attracted about 50 to the River District Arts building in Sperryville to brainstorm possible names for a conceptual trail that will wind through the county with stops at art galleries, shops, wineries and other visitor-related sites. “Hills, Hollows and Headwaters Artisan Trail” was the name that turned out best received, following an informal vote among the attendees. The trail name will be announced in the next two months. “This is an opportunity for artists, artisans, craftsman, wineries, farmers, B&B owners — all tourism-related businesses — to come together and market each other as a group ticket, for attracting tourism to the county,” said glass artist Patti Brennan, one of the organizers of the event.
