The After-School Program sponsored by Headwaters and Rappahannock County Public Schools concluded last week with performances and demonstrations at Rappahannock County Elementary School; a new session starts up Nov. 5. During the last after-school session, Mary Jenkins, Gemma Linden, Carolyn Chambers and Nicholas Plaksin are shown working on transferring their drawings for a three-panel mosaic constructed from fired tiles. Glass artist Patti Brennan led the activity made possible through a Claudia Mitchell Fund grant from the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC). The after-school program includes a healthy snack prepared by the high school’s culinary arts class, plus time for outside activities, homework help and enrichment. A core of six high school students help each week and gain valuable experience in mentoring and responsibility. Contact Headwaters (540-987-3322) for more information.
