A small brush fire was spread by gusty winds Tuesday afternoon (April 8) along Long Mountain Road near Eastwood Nursery; passerby Steve Gredler (shown here), nursery owner Henry Eastwood, nursery employee Kimberly Kidwell and several Rappahannock County sheriff’s deputies fought the fire with shovels and rakes until volunteer firefighters from Washington, Flint Hill and Sperryville arrived and stopped it. “I’m pretty sure this was caused by someone tossing a lighted cigarette out of a car,” said one volunteer, “which is against the law, by the way.”
