The Rappahannock County Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 20)  at the county courthouse on Gay Street. The agenda includes Welch family apartment.

Piedmont Softball Association is now accepting registrations for all area girls (born 1995-2008) and skill levels interested in its fastpitch programs this fall. Registration is $40 for those who did not play with PSA this past spring (ages 12 and younger); and $45 for ages 13-18 ($5 discount for each additional player from the same household). Service to Abused Families (SAFE) offers free classes throughout September on helping those recovering from abusive relationships. Classes are offered from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday, as well as 9 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 and 27 (Saturdays).
