The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department holds an open house from 10 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Activities for children include a moon bounce, face painting and games. There will be a raffle offering, among many other items, a certificate for a free one-hour massage courtesy of Warren Memorial Hospital’s Massage Therapy Department and free wine tastings at Rappahannock Cellars.
The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand with information about the DARE program and George and Linda Gavis, representing the Masons, will conduct a child ID program. At noon the volunteers will be having a “cut-up car demonstration” and at 1:30 the gun raffle will be held.
If you haven’t had a chance to purchase your tickets, time is running out. Tickets are $5 and are available at the open house, or by contacting Todd Brown or Dave Kane at 540-635-5482. Four prizes will be awarded: First prize a Bushmaster Carbon 15; second is a Ruger American 30-06; third is a Winchester SXP 12-gauge pump shotgun; and fourth is a Wicked Ridge Warrior Crossbow.
Free food is available throughout the event courtesy of the fire department volunteers. For more information, contact Maybelle Gilkey at 540-635-5472.
We are so fortunate to live where we do in such close proximity to Shenandoah National Park. If you have not had the opportunity to eat at the Skylands Lodge, you are missing out on a wonderful meal. During the year the chef from the Skylands will prepare a special menu that features not only their delicious seasonal food, but also wines from a local vineyard.
Tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 12), Rappahannock Cellars’ wines are featured at this month’s wine dinner. The menu includes a venison sausage appetizer paired with the Chardonnay-Viogner and entrees of either striped bass (served with the Chardonnay) or veal loin (served with the Meritage). Dessert will be roasted apple served with Solera.
For those that would prefer not to drive home after what promises to be a wonderful meal, packages are available and include a room at Skylands Lodge and breakfast on Saturday. For more information, or to make a reservation, call 877-847-1919.
