Day, a lance corporal with the Blue Ridge Young Marines in Front Royal, and Wyatt Spiker, a seventh-grader at Warren County Middle School and a PFC with the Shenandoah Valley Young Marines in Winchester, made their remarks before the supervisors voted to proclaim Oct. 23-30 Red Ribbon Week, a recognition of the importance of drug demand reduction education in the county and a tribute to Enrique “Kiki” Camerena, a Drug Enforcement Agency officer who was killed in the line of duty. Drug demand reduction is the primary mission of the Young Marines.
