Foxcroft School junior Kathleen “Kat” Forrest of Sperryville overcame recent struggles with her serve in a big way in a game last Tuesday (Oct. 14) against Wakefield Country Day School. With her team trailing 6-3 in the decisive fifth set, Kat’s first serve smashed into the floor at the feet of a WCDS player for an ace, as did the next, and the next. Soon Foxcroft was leading the 15-point rubber game by the score of 12-3. After a WCDS time-out, she fired another ace — and another, and after 12 consecutive service points, Foxcroft took the game, 15-6, and the match, 3 games to 2. Foxcroft named Kat — who also had 18 kills and 15 digs in the match — its athlete of the week.
