The annual Amissville Holiday Food Drive held by the Amissville Area Community Christmas (AACC) group will soon be in full swing, with local businesses and churches providing collection boxes and grocery sacks to collect nonperishable food items that will go to needy families in the area.

In addition to the food drive, this weekend AACC will place money collection jars at businesses in the eastern part of the county, with the donated funds used to purchase a turkey for each family, and flowers and fruit baskets for elderly shut-ins.

The AACC event committee, chaired by Frank Fishback, invites volunteers to come to Bethel Baptist Church next Thursday (Dec. 18) to help sort and box the donated food. The church is on Viewtown Road not far from U.S. 211. Laboring in the church basement, the joyous throng will work from 5 to 7 p.m. while singing Christmas carols and munching on hot dogs and peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches.

More volunteers are needed on Saturday, Dec. 20, starting at 10 a.m, to assist in delivering the bounty. For more information, call Frank at 540-937-4910.
