Gift-Rapp’d for Christmas

 Clement Britt

At the request of Virginia’s Department of Forestry, Barney O’Meara says he and his wife Mary’s Christmas tree farm near Slate Mills donated a 25-foot Norway spruce — which became the centerpiece of the Capitol’s annual “Grand Illumination” ceremony last Friday in Richmond. O’Meara says the spruce was a two-year-old seedling when they planted it in 1992, but insists that the O’Meara’s Moose Hill Farm isn’t the story here: “The news is about a Rappahannock-raised agricultural product bringing joy and cheer to the commonwealth,” he says.
