Letter: Gratitude for Rapp’s first-responders

We, the family of the late Stevens Edward Butler, who passed away Dec. 21, would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks for emergency services provided on Dec. 2 to the following responding organizations: Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company, Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad and Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue. In our time of need, the emergency response time was unbelievably fast given they were responding to such a far corner of Rappahannock County in Boston.

In addition, we would like to specifically thank Ann Spieker, chief of Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue, for her role in coordinating responding parties. The level of professionalism, compassion, knowledge and care of all emergency personnel was top-notch. Though needing help from first-responders is never a situation anyone wants to be in, it is comforting to know that the citizens of Rappahannock County have such amazing emergency personnel waiting to help when called upon.
