VDOT readies for winter storm Monday

The Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing for the season’s heaviest snow so far, which is forecast to reach central Virginia by early afternoon Monday. As much as ten inches of accumulation is expected in the Culpeper District, which includes the counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock.

VDOT crews will report to work at 8 a.m. to ready equipment and apply sand and salt to the roads as snow begins to fall. Plowing will begin once roads are covered by one to two inches of snow.

Motorists are encouraged to adjust travel plans to stay off the roads during the height of the storm to avoid slick conditions and give VDOT crews room to safely perform their work.
