The Rappahannock County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association held its annual awards banquet and dance at the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company’s fire hall last Saturday. After dinner, the county’s fire and rescue volunteers and guests honored some of their own for their service to the Rappahannock community in 2014.
Walter Jenkins, longtime member of Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department, was named Firefighter of the Year. EMS Provider of the Year was awarded to Judy Reidinger of Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad. The Outstanding Supporting Member award went to Sheila Smith of Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and Outstanding Community Support went to Deborah Miloslavich, who was was nominated by Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue for her fundraising work for the company.
Outstanding Contributor to the Association was awarded to Frank Huff of Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue and a RCVFRA director, for his long-standing and continuous work with the association.
Attending as guests were Debbie Keyeser, assistant county administrator, and Chris Parrish, supervisor for the Stonewall-Hawthorne district.
Association President Richie Burke, Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department chief, and association secretary Arthur Candenquist of Amissville VFR, introduced the guests and announced the awards, presenting the recipients with plaques and letters of commendation.
