Two Rappahannock County students at the top in their class in science were selected by their teachers and awarded full scholarships to Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) nature camp this summer: seventh-grader Kayla Compton (shown here accepting the award from Headwaters Foundation executive director Jane Bowling-Wilson and the Farm at Sunnyside’s Nick Lapham) and Amanda Puskar, an eighth grade student at RCHS. Both will meet with other students from all over the country at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, where they’ll also explore the great outdoors and learn about conservation initiatives through exposure to SCBI’s cutting-edge research. Headwaters facilitated the scholarships, made possible by the Emily Jane Hilscher Passion Award and the Farm at Sunnyside.
