Washington Town Council meets 7 p.m. Monday (Sept. 14) at town hall. Agenda includes updates on Avon Hall and a possible water and sewer rate increase; public hearing on a special use permit application  by Rappahannock Investment Partners for adaptive re-use of part of the Washington School for professional offices.

Washington Architectural Review Board meets at 7 p.m. tonight (Sept. 10) at town hall. Agenda includes Trinity Episcopal Church Rectory, by Spotswood Williams, agent; modifications to 423 Mount Salem Ave.; MP 30-11 LLC, by Madison Spencer Architects, agent, review of plans for 30 Mount Prospect Lane.

Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services transportation will not operate tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 11) due to an in-service training.

Rappahannock County Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 15) at the courthouse. Agenda: a special-exception permit application by Hopkins Ordinary B&B to expand the hours and allowable customers at its brewery.

Do you love to sing? Join Bel Canto, an auditioned, mixed-voice community chamber choir directed by Lauren Estes and accompanied by Fay Utz, which meets Tuesday nights at Piedmont Episcopal Church in Madison. The repertoire ranges from the silly to the sublime, and the group meets from September to January for a winter concert, March to June for a summer concert. Currently seeking one soprano, one alto, two or three tenors and one bass. Auditions are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 15) at Piedmont Episcopal Church (214 Church Street, Madison). Rappahannock County Little League girls softball holds an annual board membership meeting at 3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Rappahannock County Elementary School. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome. Call Angela Jenkins at 540-675-3172 for more information.

The Blue Ridge Singers welcome adventurous singers 16 and older. The group’s repertoire spans contemporary composers (e.g. Lauridsen, Gjeilo, Runestad), the Renaissance, the 17th through 20th centuries and Broadway musicals. The ability to read music is a plus; a fast ear works, too. Rehearsals are Tuesday nights in Stephens City; concerts are presented in December and April in Frederick, Warren and Prince William counties. Culpeper NAACP hosts a bus ride to the Million Man March 20th Anniversary to Washington, D.C., on Oct. 10 (refreshments will be served). Tickets are $35; deadline to sign up is Sept. 17. Bus leaves Culpeper Library at 6:30 a.m. and departs D.C. at 5 p.m., with a stop to eat on the way home; it arrives in Culpeper at about 9:30 p.m. For more, visit naacpculpeper.com.

Piedmont Softball Association is now accepting registrations for all area girls (born 1996-2009) at all skill levels interested in its fast-pitch programs this fall. Registration is $40 for those who did not play with PSA this past spring ($5 discount for each additional player from the same household). Blue Ridge Singers seek vocalists interested in performing fun and challenging repertoire. Based in Front Royal, the BRS rehearses Tuesday evenings and presents in three counties.
