The ‘President’s’ visit

By Francie SchroederFrancie Schroeder
Outside River District Arts in Sperryville last weekend, photographer Michael Sage (left) and friend Ryn McKenna hang a life-sized image of the giant trunk of the “President” tree at Sequoia National Park in California, a tree thought to have been more than 3,000 years old, with branches more than six feet in diameter. Sage’s photos (including those he made of the President tree, combining 254 camera shots to create the panoramic picture) are part of the current exhibit, “Four Photographers, Four Visions,” at Old Rag Gallery, which opens with a meet-the-artists reception this Saturday afternoon.
