RappCats wants to thank the many people who contributed to our most successful Catstravaganza Evening of Jazz ever. The Nov. 6 event was truly a community effort by Rappahannock people, and raised money to pay vet bills, buy food and litter for our cats and pay the rent and utilities for the RappCats Adoption Center throughout the winter.
Musicians Monica Worth and Bob Bennetta converted The Meadows, home of Washington Mayor John Fox Sullivan and Beverly Sullivan, into the best jazz club east of the Mississippi! Mayor Sullivan conducted a lively auction of amazing donated items.
RappCats President Katharine Leggett, with the help of Clarissa Pintado and Dawn Schimke, produced a feast that everyone is still talking about. Clarissa also directed the kitchen and setup with able assists from local students Vanessa Barahona-Hickerson, Grayson Galeone, Carolina Leonard and Mollie (Madeline) Miller. Ed Olmsted and Paul Hagstrom ran the bar with their usual grace and good humor. Volunteers shopped, set up and cleaned up. We applaud a tremendous effort from so many.
RappCats is indebted to the following sponsors who made our fundraiser a success. Hosts and sponsors John and Beverly Sullivan; corporate sponsors Country Café, Castleton Festival, Schoolhouse Nine Golf Course, Thornton River Grille, Tula’s Off Main, Xpress Copy and Graphics of Culpeper and the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond; and generous individual sponsors Susan Laing, Susan Spencer and Tom Oliphant, Julia Thierior and Mary Lou Steptoe.
This event was dedicated to the memory of RappCats founder Franklin A. Schmidt, and we were pleased that his beloved wife Esther, also a longtime supporter of RappCats, was able to attend.
Many thanks to all our friends and volunteers!
Katharine W. L. Leggett
